Wakaura appears in famous books like Manyoshu or Genji-monogatari. Tamatsushima-shrine became famous for the goddes of improving the skill of making poem in Heian period.

Festival/event

One of the most famous festivals in Wakaura is Wkamaturi. It is held in May,and take place in Wakaura-Toshogu.

Shirasu-maturi is also an interesting festival in Wakaura.It is held in November, and many people take part in the festival every year. In the festival, people sell Wakashirasu and row fish.

Wakayama-bay marathon is also one of the biggest event in Wakaura. It is the first marathon with music in Japan. Many women runner join the event.

Local industry

The government of Wakayama City put their focus on the tourism of Wakaura. They work hard for cleaning, maintenance and development of Wakaura. Thanks of their effort tourist increased doramatically. They have,however,a lot of ploblems ,for example, how make the most of the cultural resause and natural view.

Wakaura-Tenmangu is famous for academic goddes Sugawaranomichizane.
